WHAT WE DO - SLOW BOATING

While many of our members enjoy the excitement of racing, others prefer model boating in a casual, relaxed, non-competitive, unstructured, informal manner and setting.  We initially described this activity as “recreational boating,” but it has also come to be referred to as “slow boating.” Regardless of the name, it involves sailing or operating power boats when no official racing for points occurs.

Slow boating is open to all classes and types of model boats -- both radio-controlled (RC) and free-sailing, both sail and power (with certain limitations that apply to power boats).  Newcomers, especially, will find slow boating a good way to discover the fun of model yachting in a more relaxed atmosphere, where they can get answers to their questions and help getting started.

There are 21 slow boating dates on the 2024 Master Schedule, but extra, less time-constrained sessions at various locations in the mid-coast area are being announced on a rolling basis as they are planned.

For more information about Slow / Recreational Boating, or to be placed on the separate mailing list to receive detailed information about each upcoming session, please contact MMYC's Recreational Fleet Captain: David Blanchard, davidblanchard555@gmail.com, or 207-390-1234 (mobile).

“Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing––absolutely nothing––half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats … or with boats … in or out of ’em, it doesn’t matter.”
